South Carolina Victim Assistance Network

The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN) was created in response to a mandate in the South Carolina Crime Victims Bill of Right for a network of service providers to be formed to better protect and serve victims of crime. For over thirty years, SCVAN has been the “go-to” agency as the voice of victims of crime and a resource for the providers who serve them.

SCVAN fulfills three main objectives: 1) to ensure ALL crime victims receive access to and assistance from the criminal justice system; 2) to improve the quality of services provided to crime victims by victim advocates; and 3) to ensure the criminal justice system adequately serves crime victims.

Lawyer Referral Service

The LRS is a service of the South Carolina Bar and offers referrals by the type of law and by the area or location in which you need a lawyer. Each participating lawyer agrees to charge no more than $50 for a 30-minute consultation. If the consultation extends past the 30 minutes or you hire the lawyer to represent you, the lawyer will charge you his or her normal fees. The lawyers do not take pro bono cases.

To receive a referral you may call 1-800-868-2284 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. An online referral service is also available 24/7 and may be accessed by clicking below.

Center for Heirs’ Property Preservation

The Center seeks to prevent land loss among low wealth heirs’ property (HP) owners by helping them obtain clear title and keep their family land through legal education, legal and mediation services, community empowerment and free Wills Clinics. Additionally, we promote sustainable land use for increased economic benefit to historically under-served families.

The Center provides legal services across the seven counties of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown and Jasper and forestry services across four additional counties: Clarendon, Hampton, Orangeburg and Williamsburg.

ONE80 PLACE

The One80 Place Homeless Justice Project is a program designed to help address the civil legal needs of individuals and families in the Charleston area who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Anyone needing representation can meet with an attorney at the legal clinics held every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at One80 Place.
